Merf. Thinking is Hard.: My comic about online gaming as a girl
A lot of people seem grumpy about my latest comic about online gaming as a girl.
I wasn’t implying that girls suck at games. I was implying two things:
- When girls play, often times no one takes them seriously.
- If they screw up, often times the room is filled with lonely dudes who say things like “LOL that’s okay! Will you marry me?” If I screw up I get eviscerated.
In short: a terrible female gamer gets away with way more than a terrible male gamer (like me).
This came from my recent escapades playing Left4Dead online.Again, I meant no ill toward lady gamers.

This is just completely inaccurate.
Every time I read this post I want to vomit with anger.
I went to PAX a week and a half ago, and jesus christ even trying to interact with male gamers in a non-gaming way is an exercise in misery and bullshit.
If you’re a lady gamer, you’re not patted on the head and treated like everyone’s favorite grandmother. If you’re lucky, you’re just ignored, but usually, you’re treated like a combination RealDoll and whipping post. You’re supposed to give in to every scumbag nerd’s sexual whims, and you’re also responsible for every fuck-up that they make, because you’re just a big dumb vagina getting in their way.
Fuck you if you think people propose marriage because you have tits and some video games. If you think being a lady gamer is so nice, here have some of the rape threats and sexual harassment that comes along with gaming while female.
The apology is worse than the original statement. Hey, Oatmeal Dude, why don’t you create a female character and game for a couple of days? I had a male friend who did that and he quit after becoming genuinely disturbed by all the rape threats.
Bolded is mine. I mean SERIOUSLY. A DUDE is trying to tell the world what it’s like to Game While Female. *sigh* Round and round the merry go round we go.
